Online Masters Degrees: Popular Choices

When you want to specialize in a particular subject, a Masters degree is the way to go. There are several advantages of having a Masters degree. Many people choose to do an MBA because they want to enhance their qualifications for better job prospects. Some may do an MBA for the sheer pursuit of a better education. The most appealing reason may be the monetary aspect as an MBA will certainly boost your earning capacity when compared against a Bachelors degree. Having a Masters degree will give you the upper advantage when competing for higher-level jobs.

Masters degrees are available in a variety of subjects – from a Masters in Business Administration to Masters in Health care Administration to Masters in Nursing – the choices are endless. And while a traditional Masters Degree program can take between two to four years to complete, an online Masters Degree can be completed earlier than that depending on the commitment level you can give. As long as the online college you enroll in is accredited, there should be no problem in finding a job or getting the same career options as students who have chosen a more traditional path of education.

There are several reasons to earning an online masters degree. It allows students flexibility. Students can study and fulfill other commitments they may have such as a job or commitments at home. If you are willing to put in the extra effort, online degree programs can also be accelerated and completed ahead of schedule. With an online graduate degree, you could study from anywhere – your home, your office, even while traveling. As long as you have a computer and an Internet connection, you have access to all your study material around the clock. Distance learning has broken all boundaries of traditional education. When enrolled in an online program, you could be interacting with students and faculty from around the world. This adds an entire new dimension to the learning experience and offers you a world-view that may be lacking from brick and mortar classrooms.

If you have decided on an online Masters degree, keep the following points in mind before making a final decision:

  • After having completed your online Masters degree, the reputation of your online school is especially significant when you apply for a job. In fact, it would be advisable to speak to several employers and ask their opinions on the schools you have short-listed.

  • Always check the accreditation of the online school and online master’s degree program. There are a number of colleges and online degree programs that fall way below the mark where quality is concerned. In case the school is not accredited, your degree will not count for anything in the long run.

  • Think about the cost of your online master’s degree program. Masters degrees are more expensive than Bachelors and depending on the reputation of the school, the faculty and the level of technology used, the costs could add up considerably. Many schools will help with financial aid so ask the college admissions office well in advance.

Since not all online colleges and online master’s degree programs are created equally, it is extremely important that you do a thorough investigation of all factors involved. An online Masters degree demands a great deal of commitment and effort and will have a significant impact on your career. So take care and make an informed decision.

Online Learning – The Basic Guide

If you are new to online learning then here is a basic guideline to get you started:

What is Online Learning?

Online Learning is a learning experience delivered via a computer and the internet. Sometimes students and instructors in different places are able to interact using two-way video and other technologies. Course work and collaboration is conducted through electronic forums, e-mail, chat rooms or discussion groups and other forums. Learning activities include group projects, pair work and online discussion and debate. The vehicle used for learning range from the latest internet-base technology to the postal service.

Are all Classes Available Online?

Online learning may vary from one institution to the next. Some institutions offer 100 percent online degree program with no on-campus attendance. Other institutions may offer some courses that are fully-online or a combination of online and on-campus attendance requirement, so before completing the application process, make sure you have a clear understanding about how your program is being delivered and would it be a problem if you had to attend class on-campus.

Fully-Online vs. Combination: Fully-online means that all courses are offered online through a computer and internet connection. You will not be required to attend any on-campus class. A combination of online and on-campus class means that there are times when you will have to physically attend a class on-campus and it is a requirement to earn a degree or certificate.

Will I be Required to Attend Campus?

Most online classes do not required on-campus attendance. Many online courses can be taken entirely from your home, however some institutions may require a minimal class attendance, so you want to check with the institute you plan to attend.

What Kinds of Degrees are Offered Online?

Online colleges and universities offer a wide range of degrees programs online. Online institutions offer associate, bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees in addition to a variety of non-credit and certificate programs. Some online universities offer PhDs in areas such as Health Services, Education and Psychology.

What are the Advantages of Campus-Based Education vs. Online Education?

Choosing a learning method that fits your busy life is quite possible with online learning. If you are considering to pursue your degree but do not have the extra time to attend the traditional classroom setting, then online degree programs can offer the freedom and flexibility that allows you to continue working, and attend to family life, while earning your degree at the same time. The online degree programs provide the same quality education that is found in the traditional college degree programs. Studies show that for most students, distance learning is just as effective as traditional on-campus learning.

How do I know if the Online Institution is Credible and Legitimate?

It is important to seek out an online college or university that has an accreditation from a reputable organization. Look for institutions that have been accredited by a regionally or nationally-recognized accrediting agency that is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. To find out if an online university or college has been accredited by a nationally or regional accrediting agency you can access the U.S. Department of Education search engine at http://ope.ed.govaccrediationsearc.asp.

How do I Find the Right Online School For Me?

There are some attributes you should look for when choosing a school, such as academic programs, school’s accreditation status, career placement for graduates, and other extracurricular activities offered.

Are the Online Instructors Qualified?

In order to teach at a reputable accredited university, faculty members are required to have a masters and/or doctorate degrees in addition to some online training programs in online instruction. Online instructors are experts in their chosen field.

Can I Transfer Credit to Online Colleges or Universities?

Most online colleges and universities will accept credit transfers from regionally and nationally accredited institutions of higher learning as long as the credits are eligible for credit transfer and can be applied to your degree program.

How Fast Can I Earn a Degree Online?

The time needed to complete a degree varies, but in general an online degree can be earned much faster with accelerated programs and how much time and dedication you put towards your studies. A bachelor degree usually takes four years to earn but online students can complete the same degree in less than three years. By taking courses online you have the flexibility and can complete class work, projects and assignments much faster than you would be able to with a traditional on-campus classroom.

Is financial aid available for online learning?

Financial aid is available to all eligible students whether you are taking online classes or on-site classes. Check with the financial aid office to see what types of financial aid is available to suit your need.

How to Build a Career in the Present Economic Climate or Start a New One and be Successful.

In these dire days of job uncertainty throughout the world it is not enough that you have done a particular job for so many years, you need to possess even more skills than you already have in order to stand out from the rest of the workforce and give you the edge when it comes to who stays and who goes.

Businesses these days want multi-skilled workers who can move from one place to another within the company and still perform well. How you go about gaining these extra skills needed by today’s businesses is the million dollar question.

Sure you can go to college or back to school to learn these new skill sets but be honest who has the time or money to do that these days, business wants instant results not one year on or even longer. They may commend you for going back to college to learn but they will not keep you on if push comes to shove and people need to be shed from the business. Bottom line is if you cant do the job then hit the road. Harsh but true.

So the only other thing you can do is to acquire these skills online from somewhere. There are tons and tons of companies offering courses in every subject you can think of and they offer tutor feedback and all sorts of great things for you to help your learning experience. However these courses usually run over a set period of time and not at your pace. Those that do run at your pace are geared mainly for the slower learners to take a little longer to learn rather than the person who has grasped the course and got going faster than normal.

So what can you do about it then?

Well you can learn online from membership sites which have all of the information there for you all of the time so if you are a quick learner you can follow the course and finish it far earlier than most average people can.

Some may not offer formal qualifications from them but at the end of the day your employer wants results and action and if you can PROVE that you can do a certain task well that is often all the employer wants to know. Let’s face it there are so many different qualifications out there now it is very difficult for an employer to even know what benchmarks have been used to judge results and therefore give the qualification in the first place.

I know from personal experience many times that the skills needed to do a particular job are very apparent early on if you give the person a chance to show you they have them. In my field, catering I can spot if someone is trained or not and more to the point what level they are trained to very early on simply by getting them in and asking them to cook for a couple of days.

This approach certainly weeds out the pretenders who SAY they have a qualification, and may well have but simply cannot do the job.

I think most employers these days would rather have someone competent in a job than someone who SAYS they are competent in a job.

By learning online you can pick up the relevant knowledge and practice this at your workplace whilst you are going about your normal routine but when it comes to the boss asking if someone can do a particular job, you are in a position to show them you can do it even thought you may not have the qualification to show that.

I have learnt many new skills off the internet on membership sites for my trade in such diverse areas as human resources and housekeeping which enabled me to progress to manager level for 4 units looking after catering and housekeeping in the healthcare sector, even though I only had catering qualifications.

The point is that there are websites and membership sites out there offering the opportunity to increase your knowledge on a wide variety of subjects and if you want to continue in the workforce for a long period of time you will have to change your mindset and start to learn new things to give you the edge.

If you want to learn more about membership site learning for the future than visit my website where you will find a myriad of information awaiting you.

Some Students Are Finding An Online Education Easier For Their Lifestyles

The ability to obtain an online education degree has opened a vast amount of opportunities for students all over the world. A lot of students that have found that paying for a traditional full-time course via an onsite university is out of reach; can still obtain the same knowledge by utilizing an online university.

However, before you dive into the world of online education degree programs there are a few things that you need to do, in order to get the best out of your learning experience.

  1. Analyze the cost of the institution as well as the benefit of the learning facility. A lot of students avidly enroll in distance learning programs simply because they want to go to school. However, acting off of a sense of compulsion is a horrid idea. You need to ensure that you are getting the best deal for your money. Basically you want to ensure that your education degree is going to be worth the amount of time and money that you are putting into it.

  1. Learn how to use your time wisely. A lot of students have a problem with discipline when it comes to distant learning. If you are going to study at home, you need to be able to put yourself on a learning schedule that will benefit you in the end.

There are a plethora of students that fail at distant learning and never obtain their education degree. A lot of these students fail, simply because they lack the adamant amount of discipline that they need in order to succeed.

  1. Validate the degrees that the online learning institution is offering. Obviously, you have probably spiked an interest in attending an online learning institution because you want to change your career, or perhaps you’re just starting one. Be aware that there are some learning institutions that are bogus. Before putting your time and effort into an online university you should acquire information about the university from the US Department of Education.

You should approach an online learning institute with the same respect that you approach a traditional onsite university. If you apply yourself, you will end up being successful.
