Education Crisis Resolved through LMS

Education is man’s fuel to continue to propel towards growth and self fulfilment. Every human being deserves to gain decent education to thrust his status to improvement. Therefore any hindrance to the attainment of such, whether by man himself or another, should not be condoned by the society.

Among the common public education problems in the United States, the issue on racial discrimination still tops the list in spite of years spent fighting for equality in the society. Unequal treatment of African American students and other minority groups over the whites is constantly whipping the status of the education system of public schools. Incidentally, racial discrimination is not only experienced by the students, the same is true for the educators or teachers. The quality of education splits up primarily because of misguided systems and policies being practised in the academic institutions.

Minority students tend to perform poorly in school because of low self esteem and confidence as the colour of their skin dictates inferiority. Many are afraid of being bullied and intimidated by the group of a greater number hence, they stay inside their shell. However, in a study on the success of home-schooled students conducted years back, minorities seemed to perform equally well in comparison with the whites in reading, and mathematics tests. When the standardized tests were administered to the students in the public school, there was a significant disparity between the percentile scores of the whites and that of the African American and other minority groups. The percentile score of the former was doubly higher than the score of the minorities. Clearly, the state of being discriminated hinders the learning opportunity of many non-white groups.

Likewise, African American educators are being discriminated through sudden termination of employment, and being replaced by younger white teachers, whose skills are in question. The turnaround plan of the Obama administration has wiped out many teacher veterans from the public schools, and incidentally majority of those laid off are African American teachers.

How can this academic problem be solved?

A learning management system or LMS is software that helps the school manage and track training and education online. Many administrative requirements such as record-keeping, course materials sharing, and others, are met with the use of LMS. An LMS is the key to resolve the problem of discrimination in the school. First, an LMS is conducted online, hence the interaction of students, parents and teachers are limited to topic discussions and not racial differences. Second, an LMS allows the students to express their ideas in their own pace at a specific period of time. Students tend to learn to whatever they observe and gain online, while exploring other learning opportunities in the web. Third, since an LMS is the focal point for development course work of the school, age, physical outlook, and race should no longer be an issue, thus preserving the best educators in town. Lastly, an LMS can generate numerical, objective, and constructive student performance readily. This means that biases and unfair favours typically granted to selected students in a classroom set-up will be reduced if not totally eliminated.

An LMS, as it advocates virtual learning, will build the students’ character more than it teaches academic lessons because of the principles developed in the course of the e-training. The sense of equality experienced by every student will definitely create a huge impact in building the future of America. Hence, to eradicate racial discrimination in public schools, a learning system should be adopted.
